someone in the army, my second-in-charge, brought up something yesterday.

"gentlemen, there is no excuse for you. everyone here has a fair share. but there're those of you who've had to go out for interviews, who've reported sick and so on- you know who you are- that cannot be helped. of course not everything is fair. but we try to make things as fair as possible for everyone. if life was fair, then we'd all be rich... or poor."

and with that i cut him off. but only because i want to bring the attention of the collective readership to his last sentence. if life was fair, we'd all have equal opportunities. but the part about everyone being rich would only apply if the everyone in question here valued wealth equally and worked equally hard. something told me that what he said was very interesting, and that i should keep it in mind, memorise it, and think about it later. for him to say something like that revealed a wistful pining inside of him. he unwittingly gave away his assumption that everybody rates money and the accompanying material possessions as highly as he does, and that everyscum works just as hard as he does in order to achieve those riches. no doubt, he's a good man with vast experiences and an overboard view on regimentation,


but what a loser.
